With a current focus on mental health, gun violence prevention, the opioid epidemic, skill-based hiring and other critical issues, the Ad Council's national campaigns encompass advertising and media content, ground game and community efforts, trusted messenger and influencer engagement, and employer programs, among other innovative strategies to move the needle on the most important issues of the day.

Job Summary

The Ad Council is looking for a Director, Media Strategy who will serve as a leader within the Media Strategy & Engagement Center of Excellence, specifically focused on Media Strategy and Planning work. This person will serve as the voice of media on a number of priority campaign issues, working collaboratively across groups to ensure media is at the forefront of our overall process. This person will be an expert in the specific target audiences for each campaign they work on, building out specific media strategies in order to understand and best reach that audience in our donated media landscape. As a part of the media strategy & engagement team, this person will work closely with external media agencies to help support our campaigns through strategic insights and outreach to enhance our ability to reach our audiences in the most effective ways possible.

The compensation for this position is within the range of $100,000 - $110,000 annually (based on experience level). The compensation package also includes an annual incentive bonus, comprehensive benefit offerings, and generous paid time off.

What you'll do:

  • Serve as Lead Media Strategist on priority national public service campaign teams, establishing goals and driving strategy alignment across all stakeholders in the campaign development process.
  • Develop annual & quarterly media strategies & plans/flowcharts that include all media channels (TV, OLV, Audio (traditional & streaming), Digital, Programmatic, Social, Search (ad words), OOH (traditional and digital) and Print
  • Ensure audience and media consumption insights are integrated into internal and external creative development processes.
  • Oversee quarterly and annual media planning process, collaborating with Analytics & Insights team to develop data informed go-to market strategies for media partners
  • Leverage and utilize media planning tools (NMI, GWI, EMMA, etc.)
  • Serve as liaison between with Media Agency stakeholders and coordinate all aspects of relationships internally and externally including setting objectives; performance metrics; leading meetings; consolidating and delivering feedback to clients
  • Work with Campaign Development, Analytics, Communications, Digital, Business Development and Senior Management on all media strategy and planning initiatives
  • Ensure campaign partnership budgets are effectively evaluated for delivery against audience, efficient spend and minimized waste
  • Serve as thought leader and present on best in class media strategies at conferences such as Ad Week, SXSW, etc
  • Participate in weekly and quarterly Media Strategy team planning meetings; delivering multi-channel, audience-specific plans
  • Conduct and share research on media landscape, trends, innovation, and emerging technology
  • Identify strategic media partnerships, ensuring budgets are effectively spent against campaign KPIs
  • Oversee campaign involvement in paid programmatic media plans to ensure media targeting insights are integrated

What You Bring:

  • 8+ years of proven media expertise and experience in a media company or agency
  • Proven Leadership/management experience in a media planning/strategy role
  • Proven track record of enabling cross functional coordination through communicating information, facilitating the exchange of ideas, inspired collaboration and identifying and solving problems
  • Excellence in communication and are comfortable in presenting at the highest executive levels
  • A nimble mindset, flexible and a business agility that is able to identify in the moment opportunities
  • Experience in crafting custom solutions with a full suite of media strategies including content marketing, social, programmatic and other media opportunities
  • Passion for cause related marketing
  • A deep understanding, appreciation and enthusiasm for DEI initiatives both in the work we do and, within our culture
