JOB TITLE: Senior Individual Giving Officer

REPORTS TO: Deputy Director of Development

Visitors experience 400 years of history through groundbreaking exhibitions, immersive films, and thought-provoking conversations among renowned historians and public figures at the New-York Historical Society, New York's first museum. JOB SUMMARY
While applying their exceptional skills in program management, prospect cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, the Senior Individual Giving Officer will work with members of New-York Historical's Development team, leadership, and Board to achieve and exceed annual fundraising goals. The Senior Individual Giving Officer will have a proven track record in fundraising, and have a genuine interest in deploying their fundraising skills in a vibrant non-profit museum. This position works a minimum of three days per week on-site at the New-York Historical Society; additional in-person work and availability to work on evenings and weekends may be required at times.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Manage an active portfolio of donors and prospects tied to a revenue goal;
  • Under the guidance of Development and Board leadership, develop and implement strategies for the research, cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of donors and prospects to grow engagement and contributed revenue;
  • Utilize donor management software to track donor interactions, analyze date, and generate reports to ensure informed decision making;
  • Oversee fundraising, prospecting, solicitation, renewals, and upgrades for Chair's Council, Women's History Council, and Frederick Douglass Council;
  • Assist in annual fund appeal campaigns designed to increase donor retention and encourage upgrades;
  • Assist in the ideation and execution of cultivation and fundraising events;
  • Maximize and identify existing opportunities for cultivation and stewardship of donors and prospects;
  • Work with New-York Historical Curatorial, Education, and other staff to align fundraising efforts with programmatic priorities, and meaningfully include programmatic staff in development activities, as appropriate;
  • Collaborate with Communications and Marketing on developing donor communication materials and outreach efforts;
  • Additional duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
  • A minimum of five years' experience working in non-profit fundraising;
  • Diplomacy, tact, and the ability to skillfully handle donor situations;
  • Knowledge of the New York City philanthropic and cultural communities;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills;
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a deadline-driven fundraising environment;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite requited; Experience with Altru and/or Raiser's Edge preferred;
  • An enthusiasm for museum development work, humanities, the arts, and a desire to take on challenges.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee with or without accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
At times, this is a sedentary role using a computer; however, some filing or shelving is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stoop as necessary. The ability to lead tours through the museum is also required.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The expected salary range for this position is $80,000-$90,000. The successful candidate will be offered a salary within this range based on specific factors such as their individual qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
